Practicing
Filming Outside:
This
workshop was all about getting used to filming outside. This included getting used
to carrying the equipment out and about, being prepared for weather, with we and
the cameras, and learning about health and safety whilst filming on location.
The
short clip below, is what I filmed (and edited) whilst at the Vinters Park
Nature Reserve. A challenge that we had was that we had very little time to think
of an idea and then film it due to other people needing to film too. Therefore,
this meant that the sequence ended up being very short in time. Moreover, when
looking back on the footage after importing, some footage had got lost further meaning
there was even less to incorporate during editing.
However,
I still managed to create a short sequence that still provided the same intention
as though we didn’t lose footage. I included fade in/outs to give more fluidity
to the sequence, and I cut some clips to close-up shots; trying more to practice
the 180-degree rule. During filming, there were a few bloopers where the acting
didn’t go to plan, so to bulk out the sequence more, I included these on the
end as raw, unedited clips.
Overall, the first-time filming on location went successful as I/we learnt about the procedures to take beforehand and then managed to still end up with some footage to work with. Now that there is more of an understanding about filming on location, next time, we can be more experimental within our filming and even prepare an idea beforehand to shoot, so there isn’t any time wasted.
