SOUND
WORKSHOP EXPERIMENTATION:
This
workshop was all about getting used to using the sound equipment, such as the
sound boom and mic. In order to do this, we compiled a short sequence to practice
how good the sound was for a comparison. Within the edit below, the first half portrayed
the footage using the sound boom and mic, and the second half without the mic.
A
challenge we faced when first using the sound boom was simply getting used to how
everything worked and learning how to correctly use it. To overcome this, we
asked Sam (lecture at the time) questions and practiced with different video
footage/clips. Moreover, another issue was that when editing the footage, it
was found there was minimal difference in the actual audio with and without a
mic, which was confusing and quite frustrating. However, this can be something
to look out for in the future and experiment with before starting the actual
shoot to make sure everything is working as it should. Therefore, to make it
more clear on which clips are what, I put in a caption of ‘With Mic’ and ‘Without
Mic.’
Whilst
shooting the sequence, everyone had certain roles, for example, I was the
actress, but we all had input on directing for what the idea will be and the
shots taken. Furthermore, whilst editing, it was easy to compile together,
making it seem smooth and the levels of audio stayed quite consistent, so it didn’t
need much tweaking.
Overall, I think it went slightly successful as we managed to produce a short sequence, however, in the future it could have been made better if we worked on getting the sound technique correct.
