SOUND ON LOCATION EDIT:
This
edit was done on location at the Chatham Historic Dockyard. This was a
development to the workshop previously on the sound technique, to put it into
real life practice. Firstly, we did a recce of the area to scout out where
would be appropriate to film and due to the weather conditions in the morning,
we chose to shoot at the mezzanine where it was under cover. Being undercover
made it easier to film as there was less worry on the equipment getting wet, so
we could focus on filming more.
A
challenge we faced whilst filming was that it was difficult to generate an idea
as everyone had different ideas to incorporate and different ideas for types of
shots, so we had to film a few extra clips, so everyone had something they
liked to work with in the postproduction. Therefore, this meant that it was a
little more time consuming than originally planned and because we were on a
time schedule, it was getting stressful. However, to prevent something like
this in the future from happening again, as a group we can prepare an idea that
we all agree on before the shoot day so there is no time wasted on the actual
day.
Another
challenge which appeared in the postproduction was that the mic/sound boom was
visible in some of the shots. This then made the sequence lack some professionality,
so despite checking whilst filming the mic wasn’t in frame, this is something
to pursue further with the camera operator to double check it is not visible,
therefore making the visuals of the sequence better.
However,
apart from the difficulties we faced, we still managed to produce a short
sequence in the location, that still managed to work well and once everyone was
set on the same idea, it was more efficient. Whilst in postproduction, although
the cuts were a little jumpy which is something to consider whilst in the filming
stage, the mic work and sound appeared to be much more precise and clearer than
the workshop. This is evident to see/hear within the short sequence and it balanced
well with the added sound track to emphasise the acting.
Overall,
it was quite a successful day.
